28-year-old coworker asks for 30-year-old employee's help, then goes to HR accusing him of taking credit: 'I didn’t take credit away from her'

Why is it so hard for coworkers to ask for help? This is the kind of behavior that clearly stems from middle school, where asking for some assistance shows a form of weakness, vulnerability, or ignorance. The truth of the matter is that blindly leading with confidence alone can lead to a whole lot more work for everyone involved if people have to clean up after your mess. It's way more worth it to speak up if you are unsure of what you're doing.

That being said, speaking up does not have to mean you owe your coworker anything, especially if you're new at this. It does not have to come with some caveat, and no one should feel threatened for having asked for help. Yet, so many workplace environments seem to be set up for employees to develop that fear unnecessarily. This employee had to deal with the fallout of his coworker's ridiculous paranoia…
